More than a church.
A movement.
A family of churches united in faith and mission — giving every person the opportunity to know and live the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
A family of faith
where lives change.
POGA is a Christ-centred movement of people committed to the Gospel. We exist to empower believers, transform communities, and share the love of God — because we believe every life carries a purpose worth discovering.
What started as a small fellowship in rural KZN is now 88 churches strong — across KwaZulu-Natal, Eastern Cape, Gauteng, and the Western Cape. Led by Bishop S.C. Mthembu and Pastor Gugu Mthembu, POGA is a Spirit-led community where every member is equipped to discover and use their God-given gifts.
Our core values.
These aren't just words on a wall — they're the way we live, lead, and love one another.
Faith
We trust God's promises and build our lives on His Word — even when it's hard.
Love
We serve one another and our communities the way Christ served us — selflessly.
Integrity
We do the right thing, even when no one is watching. Character over reputation.
Unity
One body. One mission. Working together to advance God's Kingdom across South Africa.
Service
We use every gift we have to serve God and uplift the people around us.
Excellence
Whatever we do, we do it with all our hearts — as unto God, not people.
The people who lead us.
POGA is guided by servant leaders who have given decades of faithful ministry to building a church that transforms lives.
Born in Shongweni, Bishop Sifiso Clifford Mthembu founded POGA on a divine calling to raise a generation of believers who walk in faith, power, and holiness. He has served in ministry for decades, providing spiritual oversight and leadership development across all 88 assemblies.
Pastor Gugu Mthembu has stood alongside Bishop Mthembu since 1986, faithfully co-leading the POGA family. Her pastoral heart, wisdom, and dedication to seeing every believer flourish have been central to the growth and health of the church.
From one assembly
to a movement.
Shongweni, KwaZulu-Natal
Born in the peri-urban area of Shongweni, Bishop Sifiso Clifford Mthembu grew up in a humble family and pursued his studies under difficult conditions. Determined to succeed, he supported his education through weekend jobs to pay for high school and university.
Leadership Foundations
From an early age, Bishop Mthembu showed natural leadership qualities. He became a prefect and later the head prefect in his final year, with confidence in working with authority and a natural ability to lead.
Growth & Independence
During university, he continued to display initiative and leadership. He actively participated in group discussions and secured part-time work during holidays — a rare achievement at the time.
Marriage & Family
He married his wife, Pastor Gugu Mthembu, in 1986. Together they are blessed with three daughters — Thando, Zipho, and Ayanda. That same year, the seeds of what would become POGA were planted.
88 Churches & Growing
What began as a single fellowship in KZN has grown into 88 local churches across four provinces. POGA continues to plant new assemblies, equip leaders, and reach communities across South Africa with the Gospel.
Services
To meet your needs
God & Scripture
01 God
There is one eternal, perfect God — Creator of everything — who exists as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. He is sovereign, all-knowing, and ever-present.
02 Jesus Christ
Jesus Christ is fully God and fully human. He lived without sin, died for ours, rose on the third day, and ascended to heaven. Everyone who believes in Him receives forgiveness and eternal life.
03 The Bible
The Bible is the inspired, infallible Word of God — our ultimate guide for faith, belief, and how we live. It is the final authority in all matters of life and doctrine.
Salvation & The Spirit
04 The Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit lives in every believer — guiding, teaching, and empowering us to live for God and serve others. He convicts the world of sin and gives new life to those who believe.
05 Salvation
Salvation is a free gift of grace. Repent, believe in Jesus, and you're forgiven — born again by the Spirit and welcomed into God's family. It cannot be earned, only received.
06 Ordinances
We practise Water Baptism and Holy Communion — not as requirements for salvation, but as acts of obedience and remembrance of what Jesus did for us.
The Church & Eternity
07 The Church
The Church is everyone who believes — united in faith, called to equip each other, spread the Gospel, and build God's Kingdom on earth. It is the body of Christ.
08 Future Events
We believe in the resurrection — eternal life with God for those who believe, and eternal separation for those who don't. Christ will return to judge the living and the dead.
09 Human Purpose
Every person is created in the image of God, with inherent dignity and a God-given purpose. We exist to know God, love others, and reflect His glory in everything we do.
